Air Travel and Expectant Mothers
Air travel is generally safe for expectant mothers to travel, although caution should be taken about extensive flights during the early period of pregnancy because of hypoxia. Heavy lifting during pregnancy should also be avoided, so extra care should be taken with baggage. Please consult your gynecologist or obstetrician before planning your trip. Notes for Booking
Expectant mothers with pregnancy terms from 32 weeks to 36 weeks are required to consult their personal doctor before flying and provide a medical certificate which states:
- You have been examined by an OB
- The estimated date of delivery
- You are physically fit to travel by air
- Any special assistance needed
Please note that for your safety, if you choose not to carry a medical certificate, Hainan Airlines reserves the right, under certain circumstances, to refuse boarding.
For your safety, Hainan Airlines does not allow women on flights in the following circumstances:
- Over 36 weeks pregnant
- Within 4 weeks prior to the anticipated delivery date
- Less than 7 days after delivery
